Welcome!
I’m Callie Kimball. 2024 will be my seventh season growing dahlias. A few years ago, I bought a highly distressed acre of land in Freeport, and immediately got to work rehabilitating it.
I designed my own farm building and had it built by the Amish here in Maine. I don’t use chemicals, pesticides, or gas-powered equipment, and I build habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.
For many years I was a playwright. I studied with the late Tina Howe, and had productions regularly in cities like NY, Chicago, Boston, and LA. In 2018, a brain injury put my writing and my life on hold for several years.
Growing dahlias has been a significant part of my recovery. I’ve regained most of my cognitive abilities, and am writing a book to offer encouragement and meaning for others who’ve been through similarly difficult events.
I named my farm Perseverance Farm. (There’s more of a story to that name then you might even think.)
I sell tubers, flowers, and supplies, and offer workshops on how to grow dahlias. I also teach playwriting at a local college, and am planning a May workshop for beginning commercial dahlia growers.
